PVC-C Pipework Systems

PVC-C, or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, is a rigid thermoplastic pipework material used for industrial pressure and process applications where corrosion resistance and elevated temperature capability are important.

It is often selected for systems that need higher temperature performance than standard PVC-U, while still offering the benefits of a lightweight, corrosion-resistant plastic pipework system.

At IPS, we supply PVC-C pipes, fittings, valves, and related components for industrial, commercial, water-service, and specialist process applications. These systems are commonly used where the pipework must handle warm or corrosive fluids, process water, chemical duties, or demanding industrial service conditions.

PVC-C systems are available as complete matched pipework systems, including pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, adaptors, and accessories. Jointing is commonly carried out using solvent cement welding, with other connection methods used where required by the system design.

For pressure applications, PVC-C should always be specified using the relevant manufacturer’s published technical data. Temperature, pressure, pipe size, chemical exposure, jointing materials, and operating conditions all affect final suitability. Pressure capability reduces as operating temperature increases, so pressure ratings should always be checked against the actual service conditions.

Explore our PVC-C pipework range

IPS supplies PVC-C pipework products for industrial, commercial, water-treatment, and specialist process systems.

Our PVC-C range includes pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, adaptors, solvent cement, and accessories to support reliable plastic pipework installations.

Key features of PVC-C

Good chemical and corrosion resistance

PVC-C offers good resistance to many industrial chemicals, including a broad range of acids, alkalis, salts, and corrosive media commonly found in process and water- treatment applications.

Chemical suitability depends on the exact fluid, concentration, temperature, pressure, and operating conditions. Compatibility should always be checked against the relevant technical data before specification or installation.

Wide Temperature & Pressure Range

Suitable for elevated-temperature applications

PVC-C is often selected where a plastic pipework system needs higher temperature capability than standard PVC-U. It can support selected warm-water, process, and industrial applications when the system is correctly specified.
Temperature and pressure must always be considered together. As temperature increases, allowable working pressure reduces, so the relevant pressure ratings and derating information should be checked before use.

Lightweight & Easy to Install

Lightweight and easy to install

PVC-C is lighter than many metal pipework materials, making it easier to handle and install on site. Standard PVC-C systems are commonly joined using solvent cement welding, provided the pipe and fittings are correctly cut, prepared, cemented, and allowed to cure before testing or operation.
Correct installation is essential. Joint quality, curing time, support spacing, expansion allowance, and system layout all affect long-term performance.

Smooth Bore and Flow Efficiency

Corrosion-free performance

Unlike metal pipework, PVC-C does not rust, pit, or suffer from electrolytic corrosion. This can make it a practical choice for water-treatment, chemical, and industrial systems where corrosion could affect flow, service life, or system reliability.
The material helps remove one common cause of pipework deterioration, but the system still needs to be designed for the application, including pressure, temperature, chemical duty, support, and external conditions.

Third Party Accredited

Smooth internal bore

PVC-C pipework has a smooth internal bore, helping to support efficient flow and reduce friction losses. This can help maintain system performance when the pipework is correctly sized, installed, and maintained.

Safe for Potable Water & Food-Grade Media

Broad system choice

IPS supplies PVC-C components across a range of pipework requirements, including pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, adaptors, and supporting accessories. Our team can help customers select compatible products for the required application and installation method.

Common applications

PVC-C is commonly used for:

  • Pressure pipework systems
  • Process water systems
  • Water-treatment systems
  • Chemical dosing and transfer duties
  • Warm-water and elevated-temperature process lines
  • Corrosive industrial fluid handling
  • Selected drainage applications
  • Above-ground process pipework
  • Compatible water-service applications where relevant approvals apply

Suitability should always be confirmed against the application, chemical compatibility, pressure, temperature, approvals, and installation environment.

Why choose IPS for PVC-C pipework?

IPS supports customers who need more than a pipe supplier. Our team can help with product selection, technical compatibility, sizing, specification queries, installation guidance, and supporting documentation.

Whether you are replacing an existing system, working from a drawing, or specifying pipework for a new installation, IPS can help match the right PVC-C products to the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PVC-C used for?

PVC-C is used for industrial pressure and process pipework where corrosion resistance and elevated temperature capability are required. Common uses include process water, water treatment, chemical handling, warm fluid service, and selected corrosive-duty applications.

How is PVC-C different from PVC-U?

PVC-C offers higher temperature capability than PVC-U, making it suitable for selected applications where standard PVC-U may not be appropriate. Final selection should always consider temperature, pressure, chemical exposure, approvals, and installation conditions.

What joining method is used for PVC-C?

PVC-C pipework is commonly joined using solvent cement welding. The pipe should be cut square, prepared correctly, joined with the correct cement, and allowed to cure fully before testing or operation.

Can PVC-C be used for chemical applications?

PVC-C has good resistance to many industrial chemicals, including selected acids, alkalis, salts, and corrosive fluids. Compatibility must always be checked against the exact chemical, concentration, temperature, pressure, and operating conditions.

Can PVC-C be used outdoors?

PVC-C can be used in suitable above-ground installations, but outdoor applications should consider sunlight exposure, temperature movement, support spacing, expansion, mechanical protection, and the suitability of all fittings and valves used in the system.

Can PVC-C replace metal pipework?

PVC-C can replace metal pipework in some applications, particularly where corrosion, chemical exposure, or weight is a concern. It is not a direct replacement in every situation, so pressure, temperature, mechanical loads, fire requirements, chemical duty, and approvals should all be reviewed before selection.

Is PVC-C suitable for potable water?

PVC-C may be suitable for potable-water or other water-service applications where the selected products carry the correct approvals or certifications. Product suitability should always be checked against the required application and local compliance requirements.

Does PVC-C require maintenance?

PVC-C typically requires less maintenance than many metal systems because it does not corrode or scale in the same way. However, regular checks should still be carried out for damage, support movement, leaks, valve operation, joint condition, and signs of external stress.
