This is an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team and make a strategic impact – not only on sales performance but on how we continue to shape a customer-focused, innovation-led business.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

The Sales Manager will take ownership of leading and inspiring our UK & Ireland sales teams to deliver ambitious revenue growth, develop new and existing business, and provide an exceptional customer experience. This role combines hands-on leadership with strategic thinking – working cross-functionally across the business and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, contributing directly to IPS’s strategic development, operational effectiveness, and future readiness.

You’ll manage a team of Business Development Managers and internal support roles, and collaborate closely with marketing, technical, operations, and procurement to ensure IPS remains the first choice for high-quality plastic piping systems across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Senior Leadership & Business Growth

  • Serve as a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the direction, culture, and performance of the business.
  • Work closely with the Directors to translate company vision into actionable strategies across the sales function.
  • Influence and improve internal processes, policies, and systems to support customer engagement, communication, and scalable growth.
  • Cascade board-level decisions to your team and ensure alignment with broader business objectives.

Sales Strategy & Market Development

  • Develop and deliver targeted sales strategies for core and growth sectors including fire protection, chemical dosing, high purity, water treatment, and environmental systems.
  • Identify market trends, customer challenges, and new opportunities – ensuring IPS continues to adapt and innovate ahead of customer demand.
  • Drive key account development plans and help penetrate new sectors through insight-led selling.

Sales Team Leadership

  • Lead a high-performing team of BDMs across the UK and Ireland, setting clear objectives, priorities, and growth targets.
  • Recruit, onboard, and continually develop team members to ensure a motivated, capable, and technically knowledgeable sales force.
  • Conduct regular coaching sessions, 1:1s, performance reviews, and training to build a supportive and performance-driven culture.
  • Champion a collaborative approach between field sales, internal support, and marketing to create a seamless customer journey.

Sales Execution & Customer Focus

  • Lead by example in managing key customer relationships and high-value projects.
  • Oversee all stages of the sales pipeline, ensuring timely communication, accurate forecasting, and clear follow-through.
  • Handle escalations professionally and proactively, always focused on resolution and long-term customer retention.
  • Ensure the sales team delivers on both volume and value, while supporting the company’s ethos of technical support and long-term partnerships.

Data & Performance Monitoring

  • Utilise CRM systems (IPS uses Microsoft Dynamics) to track pipeline, customer activity, and overall team performance.
  • Analyse data to monitor individual and team KPIs, identify improvement areas, and support business reporting.
  • Provide monthly performance updates to the Directors, including insight into trends, wins, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Support preparation and presentation of sales performance at board meetings.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Maintain regular engagement with key customers through site visits, business reviews, and strategic support.
  • Promote IPS’s value-added services including our webinar programme, technical training, and sector-specific expertise.
  • Work with marketing and customer service to ensure a consistent customer experience across all touchpoints.

Product & Industry Knowledge

  • Stay updated on IPS’s full product portfolio – from PVC-U, ABS, PVDF, Polypropylene, and CPVC systems to flow measurement, double containment, and fire protection solutions.
  • Understand evolving compliance requirements and industry standards to provide customers with confident guidance.
  • Act as a conduit between customers and our technical teams to feed insights into product development and innovation.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in a senior sales leadership role, ideally in technical or industrial sectors (engineering, manufacturing, construction, or related).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead sales strategy and manage geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets in a solutions-led, B2B environment.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance short-term wins with long-term customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage with customers, team members, and senior stakeholders alike.
  • Proficient in using CRM systems and data to drive performance and decision-making.
  • A team-first mentality – someone who sees leadership as enabling others to thrive.
  • Full clean UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly across the UK and Ireland.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary (based on experience)
  • Performance-based bonus scheme
  • Company car
  • Hybrid working (based from Seaham HQ, depending on business needs)
  • Private healthcare
  • Pension scheme
  • Technology and cycle to work schemes
